When selecting a saved game file, hold L + R and press A.

Secret Challenge Mode

In Challenge Mode, the screen will not scroll to the left. No backtracking! Here's how to do it:

1. Complete the game (see the ending at least once).
2. On the world map screen, press Start to pause the game.
3. Enter the following code: L, R, L, R, X, X, Y, Y.
4. If you've done it correctly, a message will appear and a yellow arrow will appear in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

Unlock World 4

Defeat the Boss in the World 2 final castle as Mini Mario.

Unlock World 7

Defeat the Boss in the World 5 final castle as Mini Mario.

Different Background Patterns

When you have completed the game (beaten the final castle), you will find a new blue Toad House at the beginning of World 1. Inside are four background patterns that you can choose for the touch screen, purchasing each with star coins. The fifth and final pattern appears when you have collected all star coins.

Saved Game Stars

There are three final tasks you must finish to have a star be added next to your saved game file.

1. Defeat the final Boss in World 8's end Castle.
2. Complete all world maps and all levels including secret paths.
3. Spend all star coins.

Timer-based Toad Houses

Complete a stage with a time having the last two digits the same number to unlock different Toad Houses at the start of the World.
Ending in 11, 22, or 33 unlocks a red Toad House that gives items.
Ending in 44, 55, or 66 unlocks a green Toad House that lets you play the 1-up game for extra lives.
Ending in 77, 88, or 99 unlocks an orange Toad House that gives you a Mega Mushroom.
